Merijn Schoeber: What is going on, guys? Merijn here for Student Aesthetics. Welcome to today’s vlog.

 

Today, we’re going to do something different in terms of working out. Usually, I always do weight training, you know, go to the gym, lift weights, but today, I’m going to try something else because I’m going to join some of my friends who are really into calisthenics. I got to say that I’m not really the most flexible guy, so we’re going to see how this is going to turn out. But, yeah, let’s get it started.

 

All right, so we’re driving to a calisthenics bar and it’s supposed to be pretty awesome. A little bit of a further drive than I thought, so we’re probably going to be training at about 2:30. I haven’t eaten a single thing today, you know, we’re still fasting. Sipping a [0:01:14] [indiscernible] right now to get some caffeine in my system. And I actually have a little bit of a pain in my lower back, like, no joke because I did that challenge with Stan where I – you know, we went on an epic challenge. I wanted to win and yeah, I kind of snapped my back to be honest. I didn’t really realize it during the workout because I didn’t actually go to failure but, yeah, I kind of feel it in my lower back. Probably, also because I hit up a festival the next day. I went to Latin Village, which was super cool, by the way.

 

Also, I ran into someone who has been featured on the channel before. My friend, Nochtli, and we were discussing, you know, a new collab, so we definitely want to make that happen. Like I’ve noticed that I got more female followers now, so I wanted to ask you guys and girls is what do you want to see when me and Nochtli collab? The guys are probably going to say booty workout but I also want to – want to know what the ladies have to say, so leave all your ideas in the comments down below and we’ll make that happen soon.

 

Merijn Schoeber: All right, guys. So we are warming up right now. The weather is beautiful today, so we chose a nice day to do calisthenics. They’ve been asking me for a while to join them, so today’s going down. So we got Michael here, [0:02:39] [Celine] and [0:02:41] [Yalnick].

 

Yeah, what we’re going to do, you’re going to have to explain. Also, if you’re an OG subscriber, you probably remember them from like old videos. We’ve all been friends –

 

Michael: Oh.

 

Merijn Schoeber: – since like high school and stuff. So explain what we’re going to do.

 

Michael: So first, we’re going to do muscle-ups. After that, it’s going to be one arm pull-ups, one arm pushups.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Oh, we’re going to try to do that.

 

[Cross Talk]

 

Merijn Schoeber: At least we’re going to try it.

 

Michael: Also, handstand pushups, so it’s all body weight training only. And after that, we’re going to do a circuit which is three rounds of pushups, pull-ups, dips, straight bar dips, and maybe some skills like human flags. So, yeah, we’ll see.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Yeah, I think we’re just going to freestyle.

 

Michael: Yeah, just going to freestyle.

 

Merijn Schoeber: They’re going to show us some of their moves that I can do and I’m going to try and do whatever I can. So, yeah, and Celine, what can you do?

 

Celine: Um –

 

Merijn Schoeber: He’s just like me. We’re rookies here. We’re rookies so –

 

Celine: That’s a good question.

 

Merijn Schoeber: – we’re going to see. We’ll see.

 

Celine: I’ve tried to do my first muscle-up for a while. I didn’t manage until now but I’m going to try with the resistance band and I might manage today. At least we’re going to have fun.

 

Michael: Let’s go.

 

Celine: And let’s go, boys.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Nice, nice, nice.

 

Speaker: 17.

 

Merijn Schoeber: All right, so the first exercise we did were the muscle-ups. And that is one exercise that I actually can do. And they teach me that last year, well, especially when I was –

 

Speaker: Yeah, last year.

 

Merijn Schoeber: That was like a calisthenics program [0:05:53] [outside]. So after the festival, we walked to the car, we saw a calisthenics park and they teach me how to do muscle-up. That was the first time I did it. I think I did like five in a row.

 

Anyway, so now what are we going to do now?

 

Michael: So next exercise is hands and pushups. So we’re going to do it on the equalizers. But for beginners, we can do it just on the ground.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Nice.

 

Michael: Push, push, push.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Yeah.

 

Michael: Yeah, now, push, push, push, push.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Fuck. It’s a cool exercise but I’m going to skip out today because of my lower back.

 

Michael: Now, push. One more. Nice.

Speaker: No. L with the shape of my back and then V is [0:07:22] [indiscernible].

 

Merijn Schoeber: All right, so I failed on the handstand pushups, but now we’re going to do something that I think I can probably manage or not directly today but like someday I want to be able to do this, which is the one-arm pull up. I can do like over – I can pull up with 50kg. So I should be able to do this once I get the form down. I know calisthenics is lot about form – technique just like the muscle-up.

 

Fuck, yeah.

 

Yeah.

 

Michael: Come on.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Yeah.

 

Michael: Go, man. Come on.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Shit man. Almost.

 

Michael: He’s trying a different strategy. He’s going to try something [0:08:47] [that’s ancient]. Nice.

 

Okay, so we just did one-arm pull-ups. Next step is to one-arm pushups. So you want to have one hand on your back, on your quad, and just have your legs wide like this and then just push with your hand in the middle of your body and just push down.

 

Let’s go.

 

Speaker: All right.  Let’s go for it, do some calisthenics.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Feel like a fucking noob today. Okay.

Michael: That’s so good. Now, push, push.

 

Merijn Schoeber: It’s a lot of core.

 

Michael: Yeah. So if you can do it straight with your feet on the ground, you can just do it up on your knees just to begin [0:09:47] [an effort].

 

Merijn Schoeber: Oh, yeah.

 

Michael: So like this.

 

Speaker: That’s still heavy, right?

 

Merijn Schoeber: No. I don’t know, man. Not that heavy.

Michael: I’ll go push.

Michael: Okay.  So now we did some strength exercises and on the other day, we do skill exercises like a human flag or a back lever, and that’s what we are going to do now.

 

Merijn Schoeber: No.

Merijn Schoeber: Oh snap. I’m [0:11:50] [indiscernible]. Oh shit, I would snap my whole body up. The only calisthenics movement I can do.

Hi, guys. So workout finished. I enjoyed it. I got to say that I feel pretty hard today but that also teach me a lesson that I got to work on this. You know, I never do this, so obviously, you know, everybody has things to improve on. So I may do this more often.

 

A big shout out to the guys over here. They are called Calisthenics Family on Instagram, so they also share their whole progression and everything. I think you guys started like a year ago.

 

Vara: Yes.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Right.

 

Vara: Yeah.

 

Merijn Schoeber: So they’ve only been doing this for a year. You know, I’ve seen them progress over the months and it’s pretty cool. Just make sure to give them a follow and the whole workout will actually – a bee as attacking [0:13:44] [Vara] right now.

I haven’t eaten anything today. It’s almost 5 o’clock. We’ll be home at like 5:30, go to a grocery store. First meal will be late today, which means we’re going to have an epic feast.

 

All right. So we just dropped them off and we’re about to head home. Now, I saw that there was kind of a traffic jam on the way back to my apartment. It’s kind of shitty, man, because I’m starving, so we’re going to hit off the grocery store. I’m going to go in full douchebag mode because I’m – you know, I still obviously didn’t get changed and stuff.

 

Vara: Hey, full douchebag.

 

Merijn Schoeber: I’m kind of used to that already. I used to feel – I feel like one. Right now I’m just like, “It’s all good.” A lot of people also obviously know that I got the channel, so –

 

Speaker: Okay, good.

 

Vara: They all know. Everybody knows.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Everybody knows. There’s nobody who doesn’t know. No, I’m just kidding. I’m need something for on-the-road, back to the apartment for right now. May I have some money, like 30 stuff as well because I got – I had zero [0:15:14] [calories] today so I can do whatever I want, you know.

 

All right, so we finished the groceries there. We got some cool food. We got something new we’re going to try out today, a new product here in the Netherlands. You guys from the USA already got this, but I’m going to show you guys when we get to my apartment.

 

First, we’re going to eat during the trip there, just some food, man, to keep me going because I’m starving.

 

Anyway, while this is cooking up, I’m going to have this shit that I was talking about. Well, I don’t know if it’s shit or if it’s good. I just like to say the word, shit, I don’t know why. This ice cream that is high in protein and in fiber.

 

Okay. So first impression before I actually tried it, it is pretty freaking expensive. If you’re on a budget, hell no. Don’t do it. The macros are solid though. It’s 3 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbs and 13 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber, so it seems solid.

 

This is pretty good. This is actually pretty good. Yeah, this is good.

 

Vara: What is it, vanilla?

 

Merijn Schoeber: Yeah. This is freaking solid. Yeah, I got the vanilla right here and I want chocolate, so I’m going to try this out as well. I’ll do it right now. I’ll just do a taste test for you guys. Like I could have gone for the Ben & Jerry’s as well. [0:16:42] [Vara] actually did.

 

Vara: I did. I got the healthier variation.

 

Merijn Schoeber: He got the healthier variation. So I’m glad this is actually doable because if it was not, I would have like literally got back to the grocery store and get a Ben & Jerry’s because that was my first plan, peanut butter cup. But I thought, why not try to be healthy today? Yeah I’m – if you like chocolate, this is – this is good. It tastes like a chocolate mousse.

 

You can’t taste the protein in this actually, like not really. I would say, overall good impression. Although I think it’s pretty expensive but like if you want to have a little treat because I always kind of preach a lifestyle in which you can actually fit in like a small Ben & Jerry’s like this. Like I could fit this easily into my diet today. So it doesn’t necessarily matter but if you, you know, still have protein to hit or you want to keep it low-fat or whatever, some people just feel better not eating any dirty foods at all, then try it out . I like it.

 

All right, so we got the meal right here. So there’s 300 grams of white potatoes. I think this is like probably the best carb source [0:17:42] [indiscernible]. So this gives a lot of volume for the amount of calories. We got 250 grams mixed veggies and 150 grams lean steak. And now, we obviously need one more ingredient. What do you think, [0:17:56] [Vara]?

 

Vara: The [0:17:56] [indiscernible].

 

Merijn Schoeber: The what?

 

Vara: The hot sauce.

 

Merijn Schoeber: No, no, no, no. Where do you want to use that for?

 

Vara: Potatoes or something. I don’t know, man.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Potatoes, you eat with ketchup, bro. So I always thought – although we don’t even got no ketchup.

 

Vara: Oh.

 

Merijn Schoeber: Oh, really. Yeah, I think we ain’t got none. Try the hot sauce? I don’t know.

 

Vara: Yeah, sure.

 

Merijn Schoeber: No, no.

 

Vara: You have mayonnaise, low fat?

 

Merijn Schoeber: No. Oh, fuck it. These are like – these are like spiced, plus the ice cream. And like I already scanned everything. I got to have the pineapple as well. So in total, macros, 124 carbs, 11 grams of fat, 68 grams of protein, right? So that comes down to, you know, around 900 or something calories. It’s pretty solid, man, as a first meal, and I’m gutted. I must eat only 1,000 calories a meal. That’s the only way to fasting life – My Shredded Lifestyle.

 

So I got a package in from MyProtein this morning. I haven’t opened it yet. Let me show you, guys. By what’s in here, you can tell what I love most. I guess I never tried out chocolate protein balls. Oh, this is actually something that I did need and I would recommend to you guys as well, lifting straps. Yeah, you wrap them around the bar, it helps with grip. For example, you know, on dead lifts, shrugs as well. You know, doing heavy shrugs, you know, with overhand grip is just too hard. I’ve got some whey protein.

 

Here is something new I have never tried out, powdered peanut butter. You know, it has like 80% less fat. I may throw this like inside my oats or something. MyBar Zeros, more MyBar Zeros, more MyBar – different – Pro Bar Elites, and these are just a little bit different, and Protein Crisps. So this is just a nice snack. It’s like 100 calories.

 

Vanilla Cashew Butter, definitely my favorite one. Then we got the Almond Butter Smooth and Crunchy Peanut Butter. Okay, so that is it for MyProtein package today. So literally, the only supplements that I got right now is, you know, literally food.

 

Right there, you know, I got a lot of pills. I got the multivitamins, vitamin D3, omega-3, so those are the main ones I use. Glucosamine as well for the joints and, you know, I use creatine. And those are really my go-to supplements. So this is just food products. But I like [0:20:47] [indiscernible] and I travel a lot, so it’s, you know, very nice to have those in like the airplane and protein bars while travelling.
